Wildflowers

Astronaut Alice walked slowly, her boots brushing against the tops of wildflowers that danced in the breeze. The field stretched far in every direction—golden yellows, deep purples, fiery oranges, soft blues—like the sky had spilled itself onto the earth.

She paused, taking off her helmet. The air smelled of sunlight and sweetness, like the earth had been saving it just for her.

“I didn’t expect this,” she whispered. “Not here.”

She had grown used to harsh places. To climbing. To searching. To moving forward. But here, nothing was demanding. Nothing was difficult. It simply was. Beautiful. Undone. Alive.

Alice crouched down and touched a small blue bloom. It leaned gently into her hand, as if to say: You don’t have to try so hard here.

She looked around—no rows, no order, no plan. Just wild, glorious chaos. And still, everything was growing.

“Do you know where you’re going?” she asked the flowers.

They didn’t answer. They just bloomed.

Alice smiled. Maybe that was enough. To bloom wildly, even without a map.

She stood tall in the sea of color, the wind pressing softly against her suit.

“There will be plenty of time to chase the horizon,” she thought.

“Today, I think I’ll just walk among the flowers.”
